From the grave, Coachella review

Hello friends.  I have been M.I.A. lately (and not because I fear the Ginger Police).  Coachella was amazing, as expected, and I figured instead of giving you a play-by-play (since I went to way more shows than I anticipated), I will just tell you the highlights and standouts:

Day 1:
Kate Miller-Heidke - A surprise.  She shunned her keyboards and drum machine for just an acoustic guitar and it was a fantastic opener for the festival.
Iglu & Hartly - The highest energy of any band all weekend.  Who knew hipster rappers could be so fun.
Sleigh Bells - The shortest set all weekend.  The bass almost exploded my organs.  They are cool, but left me wanting a little more. Stay tuned for their first album releasing soon!
Jay-Z: He played non-stop for an hour and 20 minutes, including a 10 minute/10 song medley...and every song in the entire set was a hit record.  Greatest of all Time. And he showed up to watch several other sets during the weekend, which was rad.
(Other notes: Yeasayer was terrible, Hockey was fantastic, Passion Pit used auto-tune to sing live and it was STILL the worst vocals ever...just another reason of the many to hate that joke of a band.)

Day 2:
Portugal. The Man - Amazing, as always
Temper Trap - Really good, but I had to leave early to see Beach House
Beach House - One of my favorites of the weekend. A must see.
Edward Sharpe... - Song of the weekend with "Home"
The XX - UNREAL. Dark, emotionless vampires.  So good.
Muse - Dead center, 10 people back.  Face melting.
The Dead Weather - Solid, the new tracks sound really good.

Day 3:
Local Natives - One of the best shows all weekend.  See them in your city!
Then 6 hours standing dead center 3 people back for...
Sunny Day Real Estate - So Good...except nobody knew them, which was sad.
Jonsi - Life Changing.  Best show of the entire weekend!!! You should pay $500 to buy tickets off eBay to see him on tour.
Phoenix - Good, but I hate the French arrogance and their hate of beach balls and American fun.
Thom Yorke - Flea and Thom dance party.  A song with Thom looping vocals 10 times was phenomenal. Really great show.
(other notes: Gorillaz forgot the animation and it made them suuuuper boring...)

That's it for now.  I'll be relying on Matt to carry the torch for a while as I move up to Portland and start studying for the bar exam.  I know...lawyers aren't cool.  I probably shouldn't have told you that last fact. Well, at least it gives you another reason to hate me.

With Love,

Nate
